SHAANXI, CHINA: A simplified Chinese edition of Seinen-sho (On Youth), a collection of Daisaku Ikeda’s advice to young people, was recently published by Shaanxi Normal University Press.

Under themes such as “the privileges of youth,” “living true to oneself” and “pursuing your dreams,” this anthology presents Mr. Ikeda’s advice to young people navigating the particular challenges of youth, including such issues as bullying, relationships and coping with stress and insecurity. Sharing anecdotes and experiences from his own youth, he offers practical and inspirational encouragement to help young people discover their latent potential, forge robust selves and develop the qualities of empathy and compassion as protagonists of a happier life for themselves and others.

The translation was carried out by the Daisaku and Kaneko Ikeda Research Center at Xi’an Peihua University in Shaanxi. In commemoration of the university’s 90th anniversary in 2018, Center Director Ma Shumao proposed that students of the center undertake the translation of the book, for which he provided scenic and seasonal watercolor illustrations. Dr. Ma was a student of Chinese watercolor artist Chang Shuhong, known as the “guardian of Dunhuang” for preserving and documenting the ancient artworks of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, China. As renowned watercolor artist in his own right, Dr. Ma’s works are part of art collections in museums in the USA and the Netherlands.
