The Passing of Dr. Cho Moon Boo, Former President of Jeju National University in Korea

Upon the passing of Dr. Cho Moon Boo, former president of Jeju National University in Korea, on October 22, 2021, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda sent a message to his family expressing his heartfelt condolences. Dr. Cho was 90 years old.

In his message, President Ikeda lauded Dr. Cho’s lifetime dedication to encouraging young people and promoting the pursuit of education. With his deep love of humanity, Dr. Cho created a noble legacy of revitalizing education and academia that will shine in history and inspire future generations, he said.

After graduating from Seoul National University, Dr. Cho became a professor at Jeju National University before becoming the university’s president. Dr. Cho and Mr. Ikeda met seven times and collaborated on two published dialogues: The Bridge toward a Century of Hope: For the Perpetuation of Korean-Japanese Friendship in 2002 and A Rainbow Bridge of Humanity and Culture in 2005 (both working English titles), published in Korean and Japanese.
