BEIRUT, Lebanon: Arab Scientific Publishers has released an Arabic edition of A Dialogue between East and West: Looking to a Human Revolution, a dialogue between former president of the Club of Rome Ricardo Díez-Hochleitner (1928–2020) and Daisaku Ikeda. This is the sixth language edition, to date, of the dialogue following the Japanese, English, Spanish, Malay and French versions.

Dr. Díez-Hochleitner, a native of Spain, was an economist and professor and served as president of the global think tank the Club of Rome from 1990 to 2000 and as honorary president thereafter. He held key education-related posts in various international organizations, beginning in the 1950s, including the Organization of American States, the World Bank and UNESCO. He was also Under-Secretary of State for Education and Science in Spain.

The authors examine a wide range of challenges as well as opportunities confronting humanity in the era of globalization. A key focus of interest for both is the concept of “human revolution,” a positive change within the individual that brings about broader social change.

In the course of the dialogue, Mr. Ikeda remarks, “Saving the environment requires a global revolution that must start with individual human revolutions. That is the road to the solution of the complex of worldwide problems.” Dr. Díez-Hochleitner concurs, saying, “Only the human revolution can develop our inherent strengths, fully enlighten us to our essential nature and enable us to act in accordance with it.”
