On November 15, 2024, the first anniversary of the passing of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda, a memorial service was held at the Hall of the Great Vow for Kosen-rufu in Shinanomachi, Tokyo. The ceremony was led by Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada with the attendance of General Director Shigeo Hasegawa, national Women’s Division Leader Kimiko Nagaishi and other representatives from Japan, together with 280 leaders from 75 countries and territories visiting Japan to participate in a training course.
During the ceremony, the
participants recited gongyo, excerpts of the Lotus
Sutra, followed by the chanting of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.
They offered prayers of gratitude and reaffirmed their shared vow of advancing
global peace grounded in the humanistic philosophy of Nichiren Buddhism.
President Harada then expressed
profound appreciation for the solidarity shown by members worldwide over the
past year. He encouraged every individual to achieve personal victories in
their life over the next six years leading to 2030, the centennial of Soka
Gakkai’s founding, as they strive to carry on their mentor’s legacy.
Memorial services were also held at key Soka Gakkai centers across Japan and in locations around the world.
