The December 2024 issue of the online Earth Charter Magazine published by Earth Charter International features over 20 nature photographs taken by SGI President Daisaku Ikeda.

This fourth edition of the magazine highlights diverse perspectives from individuals working in varied contexts, fostering an exchange of knowledge, experiences, and reflections on sustainability and education in light of the Earth Charter. In the Introduction, Mr. Ikeda is presented as a longstanding supporter of the Earth Charter movement, and his photographs are described as reflecting “his sensitivity to the beauty of nature” and “his enduring legacy in promoting global peace and ethical leadership.”

Launched in 2000 as an ethical framework for humanity under the leadership of former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and other leading figures, the Earth Charter is a document driving a global movement based on values and principles for building a just, sustainable and peaceful society. It was created through extensive consultations worldwide with input from thousands of people from diverse cultures, regions, faiths and professions.

Mr. Ikeda also made contributions during the drafting process and frequently referred to the Earth Charter in his annual peace proposals.

Over the years, Earth Charter International has collaborated with Soka Gakkai International (SGI) (www.sokaglobal.org, www.sgi-peace.org) on various initiatives, including environmental exhibitions and initiatives promoting individual action to implement the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
