The Arabic edition of The Light of Learning: Selected Writings on Education, a compilation of Daisaku Ikeda’s proposals and insights on education, has been published by Arab Scientific Publishers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This marks the first publication of the author’s work in the country.

Today, many researchers and institutions around the world are studying Mr. Ikeda’s educational philosophy that focuses on nurturing children’s infinite potential and building a peaceful future.

The Light of Learning was first published in 2021 by Middleway Press in the United States to promote an accurate understanding of Soka (value-creating) education.

Arab Scientific Publishers, which published the Arabic edition, is headquartered in the Republic of Lebanon and is widely recognized as one of the leading publishers of translated works in the Arabic-speaking world. The company previously released an Arabic edition of Choose Life, the dialogue between British historian Dr. Arnold J. Toynbee and Mr. Ikeda.

The Light of Learning brings together Mr. Ikeda’s major writings on education, along with essays on Soka Gakkai founding president Tsunesaburo Makiguchi and American philosopher John Dewey.

In his first educational proposal included in the book, Daisaku Ikeda writes:

“Education separated from society can have no vital force; likewise, there is no future for a society that has lost sight of the fact that education is its true mission. Education is not a mere right or obligation. I believe that education in the broadest sense is the mission of every individual.”—2000 Education Proposal

This newly published Arabic edition serves as a new point of departure, enabling Mr. Ikeda’s educational vision and guidance dedicated to the happiness of children to reach a broader audience.
