Symposium on Daisaku Ikeda and Sino-Japanese Friendship at Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages
On March 11, 2023, the Zhou Enlai and Daisaku Ikeda Research Center at Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages (ZYUFL) in Shaoxing, China, hosted a symposium exploring Mr. Ikeda’s contribution to Sino-Japanese friendship. The event, held online and in-person, was co-organized by Soka University.
In his address, Executive Vice President Cheng Yonghua of the China-Japan Friendship Association expressed his commitment to continuing the legacy of Premier Zhou and Mr. Ikeda, Soka University founder, of promoting friendship between the two countries, centering on youth exchange.
Mr. Cheng was among the first students to come
to Japan under a Chinese government scholarship program in 1975, studying at
Soka University. He later became the Chinese ambassador to Japan and, in that capacity, met with
Mr. Ikeda in 2010.
Soka University President Masashi Suzuki and
Zhejiang Yuexiu University President Ye Xingguo spoke of their resolution to
further Sino-Japanese friendship
through academic and educational exchange.
Presentations were delivered by Soka University Professor Tsuyoshi Takahashi, Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences researcher Wen Xianyuan, Fudan University’s Center for Japanese Studies Director Hu Lingyuan, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences researcher Wang Wan, Jiangxi Academy of Social Sciences Vice President Zeng Jianping, and former chief editor of the Journal of Japanese Studies, Lin Chang.
The Zhou Enlai
and Daisaku Ikeda Research Center, established in 2019, promotes study of the thought
of Zhou Enlai and Daisaku Ikeda with an emphasis on peace as a basis for
creating better understanding between East and West and enhancing friendship
between China and Japan.
