Condolence Message on the Passing of Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev

On August 31, SGI President Ikeda sent a condolence message on the passing of former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, who died in Moscow on August 30, 2022, at the age of 91. President Gorbachev, who helped bring the Cold War to an end and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and President Ikeda met ten times over the years. The two collaborated on the dialogue Moral Lessons of the Twentieth Century: Gorbachev and Ikeda on Buddhism and Communism, which has been published in ten languages.

New Spanish Edition of Toynbee-Ikeda Dialogue Published

A newly translated Spanish edition of Choose Life, the dialogue between British historian Arnold J. Toynbee (1889–1975) and Daisaku Ikeda, has been co-published by Ediciones Civilización Global and the Daisaku Ikeda Joint Research Institute of Education and Development (IEDDAI) at the University of Alcalá.

Visitor Centre Opens at Soka International School Malaysia

On June 4, 2022, the Visitor Centre of the Soka International Schools Malaysia was launched, ahead of the school’s opening in August 2023. The Visitor Centre, now open to the public, will allow visitors the opportunity to gain an understanding the Soka education philosophy on which the school is based.

Founder Ikeda Sends Message to the 18th Graduation Ceremony at Soka University of America

On May 27, 2022, Soka University of America (SUA) in Aliso Viejo, California, USA, held its 18th graduation ceremony. The commencement address was delivered by Iranian lawyer and activist Shirin Ebadi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003 for her pioneering efforts to promote democracy and human rights. SUA founder Daisaku Ikeda sent a congratulatory message to the graduates.
