KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: On August 24, 2023, a compilation of 32 lectures by Daisaku Ikeda delivered at universities and institutions around the world was published in simplified Chinese by New Era University College (NEUC). The book is titled “Humanism and the Path to Peace—Daisaku Ikeda’s Lectures at Various Universities Around the World” in Chinese. An English compilation, A New Humanism: The University Addresses of Daisaku Ikeda, was published in 1996 and contains 28 lectures.

Divided into three parts—Asia, the Americas and Europe—this book contains addresses delivered by Mr. Ikeda at universities and institutions in countries including China, India, the United States, Brazil, Russia and Italy. It covers an expansive range of topics including the philosophy of creating a world free of war, qualities of a global citizen, reform of the United Nations, and the end of the Cold War and establishment of a new global order.

In a preface for this book, Mr. Ikeda points out that a university is one of the most universal and powerful bonds that connect human beings and, as such, is a castle of wisdom that prevails beyond the tribulations of the times. He states that, embracing the principles of the dignity of life, the dignity of all people and value creation that underlie these lectures, he hopes to engage in dialogue with his readers, inviting and encouraging them to envision and open new doors to human civilization in the latter half of the 21st century and on into the 22nd century.

The editing team at NEUC was led by Associate Professor Tey Shi Bin, with the cooperation of Soka Gakkai Malaysia. Dr. Tey received a doctorate in Chinese classical philology from Central China Normal University in China and currently serves as dean of NEUC’s Institute of International Education. Dr. Tey observed that a noteworthy aspect of Mr. Ikeda’s lectures is that they enable youth and intellectuals alike to acquaint themselves with the historical background of various parts of the world and shed light on the wisdom of sages associated with those regions.

NEUC Vice-Chancellor Mok Soon Chong stated that the publication of Mr. Ikeda’s university lectures is highly significant at this time, as the world enters a new phase.
