Condolence Message from Pope Francis Commends Daisaku Ikeda’s Peace Efforts

Pope Francis, head of the Roman Catholic Church, conveyed his condolences through the Italian Buddhist Institute Soka Gakkai upon learning of the passing of Daisaku Ikeda, the Honorary President of Soka Gakkai and President of the Soka Gakkai International.

In his message, Pope Francis recognized Mr. Ikeda’s role as  a spiritual leader and mentor to many. He extended his deepest sympathies to Mr. Ikeda’s family and the broader Buddhist community. Additionally, Pope Francis commended Mr. Ikeda for his enduring commitment to peace and his efforts to foster interfaith dialogue throughout his life. The Pope concluded his message by stating that he is keeping in his prayers Mr. Ikeda and those committed to advancing his vision of unity among all people.

Messages of condolence have also been received from individuals and groups representing a wide variety of spheres from all over the world.
